Designer’s Process: 1. Open File - If the file is OK then the designer goes to the next step. If there are issues with the file, the designer will request the artwork to be resupplied. Issues could be: • Fonts not outlined • Images or logos not embedded • File supplied in wrong format • Can’t be opened • No bleed area given 2. Label Front - The designer checks if the die line/shape of the label is in ‘cs’ and on overprint. If not, the designer can change these. • The label shape is to be checked if it’s an existing shape. • The file is checked for any pantone or spot colours. If there are they will have to be found on the file and converted to CMYK. • The bleed must be at 2mm so if the file does not have appropriate bleed then the designer will correct the file accordingly, if possible. 3. Label Back - The designer checks the die line and changes to cs if necessary. • Norwood label code is placed. • The colours are checked to make sure there are no CMYK colours. If there are the designer has to find them and change them to the appropriate colour. This may take a while, particularly if there are hidden colours. • In some cases barcode is added. 4/2 Colour Process Fronts: Since we work with CMYK, there should be no pantone or spot colour in the artwork. All pantone/spot colours needed to be converted to CMYK. Backs: We have a 2 colour process on the backs of our labels; 100% black and ppg green. There should be no cyan, magenta or yellow. Die line The die line/label shape should be in a spot colour called cs**. This should then be set to ‘overprint’. Bleed Area There should be a 2mm bleed area around the die line. If the artwork has a white border then a 2mm internal bleed area should be given. Fonts All text in the label should be outlined. This means that it’s no longer a live font but considered an object/shape. If the font is not outlined, there is no guarantee that we will have the font on our system so the artwork will need to be resupplied. Images Images and any other links should be embedded in the file. If the files are not embedded then the image/logo will not appear on the artwork when we open the file and the artwork will need to be resupplied. File Size The artwork should be supplied to Norwood at 100% of the original size. If it is supplied at a different percentage, and we have to resize it, then there is a chance that we could miss something that doesn’t resize properly. SPECIFICATIONS
