The Norwood pop-out plastic plane made its debut at PacPrint in 2006, much to the delight of attendees. Designed to showcase the beauty, durability, and flexibility of plastic, the pop-out plane created a lasting impact in the crowded marketplace and quickly became a runaway success.

Product: Pop-out plane on A4 plastic sheet
Substrate: Durable, flexible polypropylene
Print Specifications: UV printing technology
Design Elements: 3D pop-out plane; 9m plastic plane model for display

Developed as a pop-out on an A4 sheet, the plane was included in “Desktop” magazine, generating overwhelming demand for additional planes and inspiring new designs that were mailed to locations across Australia and overseas.

To mark its 10th anniversary, we decided to give the pop-out plane a fresh look, re-releasing it as a reminder to our innovation in making paper look “plane.”

What made these plastic pop-outs so popular? Perhaps it’s because:

  • Three dimensional objects stand out from the rest of the crowd
  • Interactive designs stimulate creativity and conversation
  • They increase brand awareness
  • They bring out the inner child in all of us

To launch the pop-out series, Norwood also designed and constructed a striking 9m model plane made entirely from plastic. This model hung above the Norwood stand during its inaugural flight at PacPrint in 2006, illustrating the strength and durability of plastic while making our stand easy to locate. The plane quickly became a popular meeting point for attendees. After 90 hours of in-house design and construction, it was a remarkable display of Norwood’s design team’s creativity and lateral thinking.
